| The bar is in 18 feet of water, approximately 200 yards from the beach. A six to eight foot high wall of tetrahedrons forms a protective arc roughly 40' from the bar on each side and 30' to the midpoint. The initial phase of the art gallery would have five 20' x 20' display areas, including the bar. | ||

Jose Cuervo ART-official Reef |

| Animated map exhibiting the world's oceanic waters. A continuous body of water encircling the Earth, the world (global) ocean is subdivided into a number of principal components with relatively free interchange among them. Five oceanic divisions are usually reckoned: Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and Southern; the last two listed are sometimes consolidated into the first three. | |

If you are a marine artist with an interest in showing your work in a gallery, or other suitable venue, during Art Basel Miami Beach - December 4 to 7, 2008 - send me a note, along with a link to your website.
The Jose Cuervo Art-official Reef is located in less than 20 feet of water at the southern end of Miami Beach, approximately 200 yards southeast of the Second Street lifeguard station and Ocean Beach Park. The bar was built and donated to Miami-Dade County's artificial reef program by Diageo, the world's largest liquor distributor, on behalf of the Jose Cuervo tequila brand during Sinko De Mayo South Beach Splash!, a watersports festival organized by the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce in May 2000. |

On Tour The Gallery of the Ocean Realm is a traveling exhibition of marine art that will be displayed in a variety of venues, beginning with Art Basel Miami Beach in December. Projecting a 'one ocean' philosophy, artists from the five oceanic regions (Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Artic and Southern) will be 'connected' in one exhibit area through decor and sound. Marine art ranges from delicate images of a macro-photographer to the fantasy of Pascal Lecocq, the painter of blue. From the function of a 22-ton concrete bar with six barstools near Nikki Beach to the 'symbolic circle' of underwater sculptor Jason Taylor, who is completing the current phase of an innovative project near a beach in Grenada. |
